Alberta is the fourth largest Canadian province by area, at 661,848 km2 and the fourth most populous, with 4,262,635 residents. Edmonton is the provincial capital and the largest city is Calgary. More than half of Albertans live in Edmonton or Calgary. English is the province's official language. The service sector employs 80% of Albertans, in fields like healthcare, education, professional services, retail, tourism and financial services. The industrial base includes manufacturing, construction, and agriculture.
British Columbia is the westernmost province of Canada. Major sectors of BC's economy include forestry, mining, filmmaking and video production, tourism, real estate, construction and retail. Its main exports include lumber and timber, paper products, copper, coal, and natural gas. Although less than 5 percent of the province's territory is arable land, significant agriculture exists in the Fraser Valley and Okanagan due to the warmer climate. British Columbia is home to 45% of all publicly listed companies in Canada.
